Sim Drivers:
We have 6 seats available for this year. You will have the opportunity to drive in the Formula Student Sim Race Series 2024/2025 (this is separate to the actual Formula Student contest). The dates of the events are shown in the table attached. The event will be run on Assetto Corsa with a different car/track combination for each race. There will be two drivers needed for each event and we can have additional drivers to help with car setup before each event.
There is a practice server which opens after the previous round is completed. This is used for any driver who is competing in that round to complete at least 5 consecutive incident-free laps within 107% of the top 5 fastest teams (averaged) before the event. There will be an opportunity to race in the Williams F1 E-Sports Centre in the later rounds of the competition.
There are Engineering Challenges are hosted between each round of the Sim Racing Series - championship points will be rewarded to the top participants. The purpose of these challenges is to test, and reward your team’s Race Engineering skills, not just your driving / hot lap ability. To help us select drivers, you will be sent a driving challenge to complete 10 consecutive laps and a single qualifying lap at a selection of tracks.
Key Duties:
- Attend a number of the events throughout the year
- Attend practice sessions ahead of each event
- Give good technical feedback to improve vehicle performance and handling
- Attend Race Engineering meetings when required to
- Support Engineering Challenges
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Racing experience such as karting, auto racing or sim racing
- Good technical knowledge - a basic understanding of vehicle dynamics principles is useful
- Excellent communication skills

Race car drivers:
We have 6 seats available this year, 4 main drivers and 2 reserves.
Successful candidates will get the opportunity to drive our current electric Formula Student car. They are expected to attend every test and competition that the team enters in the Summer of 2024, along with some meetings with the Race Engineering and Driver Controls departments throughout the year. Our drivers are also expected to attend some Driver-in-the-loop simulator sessions to help with the development of the car.
To become a driver, you must first be a part of TSM and have their karting membership – find it here. TSM will organise a British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC) test session and or qualifying session so that we can analyse individual performance.
The location of the test and qualifying sessions will be confirmed nearer the time. These will give you experience in a professional motorsport environment and an opportunity to develop and prove yourself as a driver. Please note – to be a driver, you must be 18 years old and hold a full driver’s license.
Key Duties:
- Attend all Formula Student competitions during the summer of 2024
- Attend all test days organized by the team
- Give good technical feedback to improve vehicle performance and handling
- Consistently work to maintain/improve driving ability
- Take part in potential driver-in-the-loop simulation sessions
- Attend Race Engineering and Driver Controls meetings when required to
- Be fast - be consistent - and don't crash (or hit any cones)!
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about racing and Formula Student and are willing to devote their free time to the project.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Racing experience such as karting, auto racing or sim racing
- Good technical knowledge - a basic understanding of vehicle dynamics principles is useful
- Excellent communication skills
- British University Karting Championship involvement (or similar) is extremely desirable
