Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity & Inclusion Award at FSUK 2024

SUFST is honoured to receive the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity & Inclusion Award at the Formula Student UK 2024 competition. This award, presented by Racing Pride in partnership with Aston Martin, recognises Formula Student teams that have made significant efforts to promote diversity and inclusion. Over the past year, SUFST has developed and implemented a comprehensive strategy to enhance inclusivity within our team. Our initiatives have focused on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all members, ensuring diverse representation, and fostering a culture of respect. Our key achievements include diverse representation, with 25% of our team members being first-generation university students, members from at least 20 different nationalities, and 44% of our team coming from ethnic minority backgrounds. We have integrated the use of pronouns and chosen names into the everyday functioning of the team to ensure everyone feels respected and acknowledged. We established mentoring systems to help new members learn skills and feel supported within the team, and we are planning to introduce audio descriptions to make our activities more accessible. Additionally, we are collaborating with the National Motor Museum to create learning resources for Key Stage 3 & 4 students, promoting engineering and inclusivity in education. In recognition of our efforts, SUFST was awarded the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity & Inclusion Award during the FSUK 2024 awards ceremony. This award not only acknowledges our commitment to diversity and inclusion but also provided us with an exclusive experience with Aston Martin. Our team had the opportunity to tour the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team's facilities at Silverstone and visit Aston Martin Lagonda. We explored behind the scenes, met with designers, and gained insights into the high-performance automotive industry. This experience was both inspiring and educational, reinforcing our dedication to growing an inclusive environment within our team and the broader engineering community. Receiving the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity & Inclusion Award at FSUK 2024 shows our team's dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive environment. We are proud of our achievements and motivated to continue our efforts.
