Read about this year's recruitment!

As the new academic year begins, we're already celebrating a historic year in terms of team membership numbers. Now with over 400 team members, the team is ready more than ever to develop this year’s car, Stag X, which is our third electric car. This outstanding engagement is something we hope to continue with our goals to increase diversity, equality, and inclusion. Here is an insight into this year’s recruitment process! Who Can Join? We welcome student from all disciplines from any year to apply for any department. We accept people regardless of their skill background or technical experience. While other teams usually put limits on the number of new members, what discipline and year of study; we want to give everyone the opportunity to gain valuable experience. If someone is passionate and interested enough, then they can join any department and we will teach them the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed. This, we hope, is reflective of the motorsport industry in terms of diverse career options and backgrounds involved. We in turn believe our incoming members with their diverse subject-based experiences may introduce a fresh perspective and new problem-solving approaches. This Year’s Application Process: 1. Introduction Presentation - It welcomed new and old faces to the world of Formula student. We provided a background for who we are, what we do, why, and why it is beneficial to join the team. 2. Department Presentations – People could choose what presentations to attend; this gave opportunity to find out more detailed information about individual departments that may be of interest and ask any questions they had to the current Heads of Dept. 3. Department Workshops – Workshops were held to give real on-the-job experience. This gave everyone the chance to interact with people with similar interest, and existing members, to help them decide what department best fits them. 4. Online Form – We requested people to fill in a form which asked about department preference, relative questions, and any existing experience. We hope this process gave opportunity for those to practice self-advocacy skills when applying for their chosen department. Alongside this, with our inclusive recruitment process, we can encourage a collaborative model of teamwork within our departments, allowing for all students to be included and contribute to the team. We hope everyone enjoyed this process and have settled in well to their new departments! Have a great year! Southampton University Formula Student Team
